About the event

What is Autism? Recognising Masked & Internalised Presentations in the Context of the DSM

Autism doesn’t always look the way you think it does. Many Autistic individuals—have been overlooked because they don’t fit outdated stereotypes.

  • They make eye contact.

  • They’ve learned to ‘mask’ in social situations.

  • They have strong verbal skills but struggle in ways that aren’t always obvious.

Traditional understandings of Autism tend to focus on externalised, stereotypical presentations, often missing those who internalise their struggles or develop compensatory strategies to navigate a neurotypical world.
